The Special Investigation Team (SIT) has begun recording the statement of Teesta Setalvad, a co-petitioner in the Jakia Jafri’s complaint in the Supreme Court.
Setalvad had submitted many documentary evidences to SIT and has recorded her statement for the complaint.

Setalvad was present before the SIT officials and former CBI chief AK Malhotra has recorded her statement.  “I have provided documentary evidences to support Jakia’s complaint and have also recorded my statement,” Setalvad told DNA. Setalvad came to the SIT office at around 11 am on Saturday and was there till late evening. She will again be present before the SIT on Sunday.

“I have many pieces of evidence against people who have been mentioned in Jakia’s complaint, and have submitted all these evidences to the SIT,” she said. “I have enough corroborative evidences, which supports Jakia’s complaint,” she said.

Sources in SIT told DNA that Setalvad had recorded her statement supporting Jakia’s complaint. Sources said that Setalvad had given the SIT information about the conspiracy in the post Godhra riots, about the failure of police and other machineries in controlling the mob, tampering of evidences as well as efforts to protect the culprits.

“She had provided documentary evidences for all these to SIT,” the source said. Setalvad has also mentioned about RB Sreekumar’s statement on the failure of the state government in controlling the riots. Once Setalvad’s statement is recorded, SIT will again call Jakia for recording further statements. “She will be called very soon,” the SIT source said.

Jakia Jafri, the widow of slain Congress MP, Ahesan Jafri in a complaint filed in the apex court, has accused chief minister Narendra Modi and 61 others of orchestrating the Gujarat riots.
