A 15-year-old boy was today injured in police action during protests after Friday prayers in Baramulla town in north Kashmir, official sources said.

Police had to fire pellets from pump action guns as hundreds of youths took to streets in old Baramulla town after congregational prayers, they said.

Faizan Ahmad Tantray was hit by a pellet in the left eye, they said, adding that the teenager was rushed to SMHS hospital here.

Doctors have said that the teenager's eye has suffered major damage.

Old town Baramulla remains the only area in the Kashmir Valley where protests are held every Friday since the last year's summer unrest.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had sought suggestions on micro-blogging site Twitter earlier this month on how to control the protests in this area.
