Coming all out in Kiran Bedi’s defence, her colleague in the Team Anna, Arvind Kejriwal on Monday said charges against Bedi are not levelled by those who were allegedly cheated but by a third person. He said an FIR registered against Bedi — as directed by a court — is malafide and an attempt to malign her not because she done anything wrong but because she is fighting for a strong Lokpal bill.
Kejriwal, who was flanked by Bedi and their lawyer, also criticised the decision of lower court judge. He said vested interests are behind FIR against Bedi.
On Saturday, a Delhi court had ordered registration of a case against Bedi on a complaint filed by a Delhi-based lawyer Devinder Singh Chauhan. Accordingly, a case was registered against her by on Sunday. Delhi Police was reportedly opposing it on grounds that the said lawyer had no grounds to complain and if there had been any misappropriation of funds, donors (Microsoft and Vedanta Foundation) giving money to Bedi’s NGOs India Vision Foundation (IVF) and Navjyoti Foundation, should have complained.
“Both Vedanta Foundation and Microsoft India have denied wrongdoing by Bedi. Vedanta has written a letter to us, and they have rejected all allegations. Microsoft will also be sending such a letter soon and instead are in the process of giving more money to her NGO,” Kejriwal said.
Kejriwal also showed an e-mail dated November 16, 2011 from Microsoft wherein the company has informed Bedi’s trust about sending the last installment of their monetary support.
“The relation between the firms and Kiran Bedi’s organisation are intact. How can a third party allege cheating when the two parties working with each other have no complaints,” Kejriwal said.
