TDP MLA from Medak district M Hanumantha Rao today submitted his resignation to Assembly speaker N Kiran Kumar Reddy in support of the demand for Telangana.

"I have taken a tough decision. I hope my sacrifice would yield the desired result," he told reporters at Tirupati.

Rejecting the Terms of Reference of the Sri Krishna Committee, the Telangana Joint Action Committee (JAC) had earlier called for the resignations of public representatives from the region to mount pressure at the Centre for immediate formation of Telangana following which 10 TRS MLAs and one MLA each from TDP and BJP resigned from the House.

However, rejecting the JAC decision, ruling Congress walked out of the panel while TDP leaders said they would quit only if their Congress counterparts resigned.

Hanumantha Rao represents Medak Assembly seat, where the Telangana demand is said to be intense.
