Suspected ULFA man killed in Guwahati encounter

A suspected ULFA militant was killed in an encounter with the police in the small hours here today. The ultra fired at a police team during its routine patrolling duty around 2 am at Gorchuk area of the city and tried to flee, the police said. The police fired back and the militant was killed on the spot.

A 9-mm pistol and an improvised explosive device (IED) were found from the slain insurgent, who was yet to be identified, the sources said. Security measures have been stepped up in the city following the encounter.
