Students protest teacher shortage, blocks highway in Jammu and Kashmir

Students blocked Jammu-Srinagar national highway in Ramban district today in protest against shortage of teachers due to their deployment on census duty, police said.

Around 800 students of several high schools and higher secondary schools converged at Magarkot, about 155 km from here and blocked the highway, they said.

Raising anti-government slogans, the students demanded restoration of teachers in the schools.

The demonstration was later lifted following assurance of district authorities that their grievances would be taken up with the government.
