Whether the baby girl born out of wedlock to a married Gujarati woman and a non-resident Gujarati man in London finally stays with her mother or goes with her father will be decided only after a month. Till then, the Gujarat high court has given the mother temporary custody of the child.

After listening to the movie-like story of the case, Justice RR Tripathi of the Gujarat high court had passed an interim order granting custody of the baby to the mother, Sakshi, for one month. Sakshi had returned to Gujarat from London after breaking off with her lover, Samir, an NRI with British citizenship.

Talking to DNA, Samir said that he had complete faith in the judiciary. “I am leaving for UK this month but I am very attached to my baby girl,” he said. “She is my hope for happiness in my life.”

On Wednesday, DNA had reported that a case involving a love triangle had landed in the Gujarat high court. To everyone’s surprise, Sakshi’s husband, Alok, and his family members had readily accepted both the mother and the 18-month-old baby even after knowing that Sakshi had been unfaithful.

But the story of the two lovers and their illegitimate child had gone through many twists and turns before it landed in the Gujarat high court. Sakshi had first gone to London for further studies in 2005 and then again in 2007. During her stay in London, she came to know Samir, a UK citizen of Gujarati origin.

Their relationship grew and they had soon become lovers. Sakshi became pregnant and gave birth to a baby girl, Hiral, in London. But strangely their relationship began to deteriorate soon after the baby’s birth. According to the petition filed by Samir in the Gujarat high court, the couple had come to India but Sakshi had told her family members that Hiral was a test tube baby.

Samir had returned to London after staying here for a few days. Later, their relationship deteriorated even further when he came to know that Sakshi had applied for permanent residency visa in Canada along with her husband, Alok. Samir was surprised to know this as Sakshi had told him that she had separated from her husband.

The relationship suffered a major blow when Sakshi’s UK visa was not extended because of a complaint by Samir that Sakshi had violated immigration rules. She retaliated by filing a complaint of kidnapping against her lover. Sakshi also filed a case in the high court of England claiming custody of Hiral. But the UK high court directed the couple to file a case in the Gujarat high court to decide the issue of custody. After this, Samir filed a petition in the Gujarat high court for custody of the baby.
