Shortly after claiming responsibility for the attack on a paramilitary force camp in West Midnapore district in which 14 jawans were feared killed, top Maoist leader Kishenji today said they were ready for talks if the government stopped military operation.

"Chidambaram has been constantly asking us to abjure violence and saying that the Centre is ready to speak, but this will not happen. Once the joint forces stop operation, we will also stop violence within 24 hours," Kishenji told PTI over phone from an undisclosed location.

"We have not started it (violence) and we will not stop it first. Let us see whether the central government is honest about a solution and we will definitely co-operate," the elusive leader said.

Kishenji said, "This is the answer to Chidambaram's 'Operation Green Hunt' and unless the Centre stop this inhuman military operation, we are going to answer the Centre this way only."

"There were at least 35 Eastern Frontier Rifles jawans in the camp and most of them have been killed. We have also looted sophisticated arms like AK-47, SLR and mortars and set the camp on fire. If the state governments and the Centre do not stop this killing spree, we are going to carry out like this," Kishenji claimed.
