Standing committees hear Rouvanjit's father, La Martinere school

Two panels appointed by West Bengal assembly today conducted hearing of La Martinere for Boys student Rouvanjit Rawla's bereaved father Ajay Rawla, the school management and state home secretary Samar Ghosh in connection with the death of the 13-year-old boy.

While one of the standing committees is on school education and the other is on women and child welfare.

Rouvanjit, a student of class VIII, allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself at his home few days after he was caned by his principal on February 12 for indiscipline, Ajay said in a complaint.

Yunus Ali Sarkar, chairman of the standing committee on school education, said he along with chairman of the other standing committee Kanika Ganguly would soon submit a report to speaker HA Halim along with a recommendation.

Earlier, the charges were investigated by the Kolkata police and the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights.

Ajay, who appeared before the standing committees accompanied by his sister, said his statement was same as that which he submitted before the NCPCR.

"I want to see recurrence of such incidents stopped and there is good relation between the students and school authority," he said.

The school management was represented by Supriyo Dhar accompanied by two others while home secretary Ghosh represented the government.
