Pro-separatist students on Monday jeered at the national anthem when it was played at the inaugural ceremony of the annual youth festival at University of Kashmir. “Some students present in the hall started jeering when everyone stood up to sing the anthem. However, the anthem was played without any disruption despite the jeering and booing,” said a university staff member.

Showkat Shafi, university’s PRO, however, denied this happened.

“Nothing of this sort happened. Everything went peacefully,” he said. The alleged incident comes just 20 days after the authorities ensured a peaceful function when Rahul Gandhi interacted with the students at the same venue on September 26.
