Sreedharan to be out of hospital latest by Friday

Delhi Metro chief E Sreedharan, who underwent a bypass heart surgery last week, will be discharged from the hospital latest by Friday since he is recovering very well, doctors attending on him said today.

77-year-old Sreedharan, who underwent a six-hour cardiac by-pass surgery on Thursday last, is currently recuperating at the Indraprastha Apollo Hospital in New Delhi.

Doctors will advice the ‘Metro man’ to have "complete rest" for at least 6-8 weeks before he resumes work.

"He is doing fine and he is alright now. Since the day the surgery was conducted, his condition is stable. He is recovering very well. He will be under the observation of a multidisciplinary team of doctors for another two-three days," a senior doctor, who was part of the medical team that performed the surgery, told PTI.

Asked when Sreedharan will be discharged from hospital, he said, "Since he is recovering very well, he will be discharged either on Thursday or Friday."

"Usually, we ask patients who undergo by-pass surgery to have complete rest for 6-8 weeks before they resume work. Here also, we will be advising Mr Sreedharan to take rest for the above said period," he said.

After discharge, Sreedharan may be asked to come to the hospital at regular interval for check-up.

The DMRC chief’s family is with him in the hospital and they are being allowed to meet twice everyday.

Sreedharan was admitted to the hospital on Wednesday last after he complained of severe chest pain at the Delhi Airport from where he was to fly to Kolkata.

His right coronary artery was cent per cent blocked and the left one had a blockage.

Doctors at the hospital used four grafts to bypass the blocked sites.
