Urging Biharis to work harder to improve the image of their state, Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi claimed that Bihar progress much, if it decides to do so. Modi termed Gujarat and
Bihar as close friends that share a glorious past.

Modi was in Surat to attend the Bihar-Jharkhand Sammelan organised at BRC ground here, on Sunday.

Modi honoured the guests from Bihar including singer Manoj Tiwari and state minister Ashwini Chaubey. Addressing the public gathering, Modi urged Biharis to strive towards an improved image of their state.

"In the past few years, Bihar's image was tarnished due to some incapable leaders, who were in power. Things have changed now and more is needed to be done. It is the duty of every person belonging to Bihar and Jharkhand, to put in their maximum effort for the states' development," Modi said.

Modi termed this event to honour personalities from Bihar and Jharkhand as a 'golden moment'.

He asked people belonging to Bihar and Jharkhand to organise similar mahotsavas in every region where they have significant populations.

"Gandhiji started his movement from Bihar, while JP Narayan started his from Gujarat. In this regard, Gujarat and Bihar are long-term friends. Even history depicts a long-term friendship between both the states. Lord Buddha and Lord Mahavira are examples of this," Modi added.

Earlier in the programme, minister in Bihar government Ashwini Chaubey had addressed the gathering at the ground.

He lashed out at Lalu Prasad Yadav, saying the leader was making unnecessary noise to draw attention to himself. He likened Yadav's statements to a pregnant woman's screams.

Bhojpuri singer, Manoj Tiwari entertained the audience with his voice. However, the crowd went into a frenzy while Tiwari began to sing and police officials had a hard time controlling the crowd.
