The CBI team, camped in Rajasthan to investigate the Sohrabuddin case, questioned as many as six senior cops at the Police Investigation Bhavan in Udaipur for several hours on Thursday. The CBI also wrote a letter to the DG of Rajasthan to question the Range IG of Kota range, Rajiv Dasot.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) team is headed by DIG P Kundaswamy. Sources in CBI said that the officers questioned include a superintendent of police, an assistant superintendent of police, and a few deputy superintendents of police. An IPS officer too was reportedly questioned by the CBI sleuths.
Sources said that DIG, CBI, P Kandaswamy was present during the daylong questioning sessions of these officers and a letter to the director general of police, Rajasthan state, HN Meena too was written to question the senior IPS officer Dasot.
Dasot was posted as the range IG, Udaipur when Sohrabuddin Sheikh and Tulsi Prajapati were killed in an allegedly fake encounter in Gujarat. Dasot had been called on May 16 and 17 for questioning and discussion about the Sohrabuddin case.
No other cop had officially been summoned by the CBI to be questioned, but sources said that they had interrogated many officers on Thursday. Dasot had been called at the CBI officer of Mumbai for questioning.
During the course of investigation, the CBI had found that the Sohrabuddin case is linked to the officers in Rajasthan, and they too have an important role to play in the investigation.
The CBI had allegedly zeroed in on an IPS officer and a political leader in Rajasthan who played a vital role in the planning of Sohrabuddin's fake encounter. The CBI team had earlier arrested Abhay Chudasama in connection with this case and further arrests are expected from Rajasthan soon. Dinesh MN, suspended IPS officer and an SP of Udaipur, had earlier been arrested for the same case by the Gujarat CID (Crime) and is currently lodged in Sabarmati Central Jail.
