The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is thinking of shifting the office of its special investigation team (SIT) probing the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case, to Mumbai from Gandhinagar. Sources said that sleuths supervising the investigation had reportedly found that some important documents of the case had been leaked from the office.

The sources said that the CBI’s own intelligence cell, which is also keeping track of the Sohrabuddin case, had allegedly found that some important documents had been leaked from the SIT’s office in Gandhinagar.

The Sohrab case office may be shifted to the CBI’s western region headquarters in Mumbai. The shift to the new office may take place soon. “It may take 10 to 15 days to shift the office,” a source said. Till now, the special team was functioning from its office in Gandhinagar and had gained many important leads during its investigation.

The sources also said that witnesses, suspects and the accused in the Sohrabuddin case will be called to the Mumbai office, though there may be some flexibility in this.

The CBI team has gathered many important documents, particularly in connection with the suspended IPS officer Abhay Chudasma and Kauserbi’s disappearance. “Some documents may have been leaked from the office,” a source said. This, however, could not be confirmed from official CBI sources. The Sohrab case SIT’s office is currently located in the Old Sachivalaya building in Gandhinagar.
