Rajendra Jirawala, the owner of Arham farmhouse which was allegedly used for confining Sohrabuddin and his wife, has filed a fresh application for bail before a CBI court.

Jirawala filed for bail after CBI court judge AI Raval rejected the plea earlier. Jirawala has been booked under various sections of the IPC in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case. The sections include 120 (B) (criminal conspiracy), 342 (wrongful confinement) and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence, or giving false information to screen offender).

The CBI claims that between November 25, 2005 and November 29, 2005, Jirawala had given his Arham farmhouse to the accused ATS officials where Sheikh and his wife were kept illegally. The CBI said in its application seeking remand earlier that Jirawala “concealed” the presence of deceased Sohrabuddin and his wife before they were killed. Jirawala has been charged with destruction of evidence in the case.

Jirawala through his advocates cited various grounds in his bail plea. He has said that he was occupied with his marriage in Mehsana when the alleged incident happened. He has also contended that he is a developer for a cluster of farms, one of the farms being the Arham farm which he had given to a society. The application also said that Jirawala had extended co-operation to CBI officials and has given statements over 10 times whenever it was needed. He also said in the application that he had visited Chennai and Nepal and both the times CBI officials were intimated.
