The CBI, which has been trying to tie many loose ends in the course of its sustained efforts to crack the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case, has indicated that further arrests could be from Rajasthan. The agency has reportedly found that two political leaders -  one each from Gujarat and Rajasthan -  and two senior IPS officers  (one each from the two states) had initially planned Sohrabuddin's fake encounter.

The CBI has recorded the statements of some of the marble traders who allegedly wanted that Sohrabuddin be eliminated. The statements have revealed the role played by the two IPS officers in the fake encounter.

"Initially, it was planned that Sohrabuddin be killed in Rajasthan, but some senior IPS officers refused to be part of the fake encounter and eventually the encounter was planned in Gujarat," a source close to the development said.

An inspector-general level officer and a political leader from Rajasthan are under CBI's scanner. CBI DIG P Kandaswamy is reportedly camping in Rajasthan to summon and question these two big shots.

The political leader and the IGP from Rajasthan contacted a political leader and a senior IPS officer in Gujarat to set a trap to kill Sohrabuddin, said a source.

The Gujarat ATS came to picture later and was asked to plan Sohrabuddin's encounter, the source said, adding that the entire planning was done at a very high level and policemen at the lower level executed it.

In the meanwhile, the CBI is also questioning two residents of Illol village about Kausar Bi's murder and the disposal of her body.
