In an appaling incident, a six-year-old girl was raped by a youth
at Dolara village near Vyara in Tapi district. The girl was found unconscious in bushes on the outskirts of the village the next morning.

The locals nabbed the rapist who turned out to be a distant
relative of the victim. They thrashed him and later handed him over to the police.

Priya (name changed), a resident of Gangadhara village near Bardoli was visiting Dolara village near Vyara with her parents to attend a wedding on Thursday.

While a dance programme was going on in the evening, Priya was abducted by a youth. He took her to an abandoned place on the outskirts of the village and raped her. After committing the crime, he fled from the spot, leaving the profusely bleeding girl behind.

Priya's parents were devastated when they learnt that their daughter was missing. They searched for her and were about to approach the police at 5 am on Friday when somebody informed them that a girl had been found in the bushes. They rushed to the spot, only to find their daughter, unconscious and bleeding.

They took her to a private hospital in Vyara. At 4 pm, Priya regained consciousness. When her parents questioned her about the situation, she narrated the entire story and also gave a description of the rapist.

The villagers rounded up some youngsters based on Priya's description, which led to the identification of Rasik alias Bantho Gamit, 22, as the perpetrator. Enraged villagers thrashed Rasik and to teach him a lesson, tied him to a tree. Later in the evening, they informed the police, who rushed to the village and arrested Rasik.

At 11 pm on Friday, Rasik and Priya were taken to a government hospital at Vyara for a medical check-up. She was given primary treatment by doctors. Preliminary reports reveal that the victim sustained serious injuries, which also led to heavy bleeding.

"We have collected evidence from the spot along with the blood-stained clothes of the accused and the victim. Rasik has confessed to committing the crime during interrogation based on which we have registered a case against him. The investigation is going on," said NN Ghode, inspector of Vyara police station.

Sources said that Rasik happens to be a distant relative
of Priya and she knew him well. Priya's father works at a petrol-pump, while her mother is a homemaker.
