The police may have thought they have closed the supply line of country made liquor into the city after the recent hooch tragedy which claimed over 50 lives. They were, however, in for a surprise, as they stumbled upon six people who had devised ingenious ways to hide smuggled liquor.
Sources said the Maninagar police arrested six people - Gopal Talpada (19), Prakash Talpada (22), Shekhar Maitrayee (21), Vijay Talpada (28) and two minors - on Friday morning. The accused had brought large amount of country made liquor from Nadiad to Maninagar by hiding that in pockets of the jackets they were wearing. The accused had made cavities in their pockets to store the liquor.
The police kept a watch near Devki Garden in Maninagar after they got a tip-off. On Friday morning, the police conducted a raid and nabbed all the six. Sources said they had brought 240 packets, each packet containing 1 litre of alcohol in their jackets and small bags. Police is investigating the matter.
