The constitution of a special investigation team to probe the two fresh cases registered on complaints of molestation victim Ruchika's father and brother is a "meaningless exercise", her friend's family, which has been pursuing the matter for 19 years, said today.

"I think it (constitution of the SIT) is meaningless. It will only delay the matter," Anand Parkash, whose wife Madhu is the complainant in the molestation case, told reporters.

"It will take years for the result of the investigation of the SIT to come out. When the result comes, probably we would
have lived our life and (SPS) Rathore would move around like a tiger. He should be sent to jail," Parkash said and sought the support of media and police for getting justice for Ruchika.

Former Haryana DGP SPS Rathore has been sentenced to six months in prison by a CBI court recently for the 1990 molestation of budding tennis player Ruchika Girhotra. She committed suicide three years later and her family alleges that the harassment of her family led her to take the step.

Haryana DGP RS Dalal yesterday set up the seven-member SIT headed by SS Kapoor, IGP, Security, to probe two fresh cases lodged in this regard against Rathore and others. The cases relate to alleged doctoring of Ruchika's post-mortem report and slapping of false cases and torture of her brother Ashu.

Parkash said Union home minister P Chidambaram, whom he met in New Delhi yesterday along with family lawyer Pankaj Bhardwaj and Ruchika's father SC Girhotra, has assured them that action will be taken very soon in this matter.

During the meeting, some legal issues were discussed and the home minister also sought some documents regarding the case which the family lawyer will be providing through e-mail.

On discussions at the meeting with Chidambaram on invoking Section 306 of the IPC (abetment to suicide) in the case, Parkash said, "There are some issues which are confidential. The lawyer would consider all the issues".

On Rathore's wife's plea in the court yesterday that Madhu and her family had fabricated the case which was nothing but a media trial, he said, "I say it is not a media trial.

"If Abha proves even a single fact has been distorted or twisted then I should be hanged otherwise the license of Abha and Abhay Jain (Rathore's other lawyer) should be cancelled," Parkash said. He said Rathore should be "hanged for his misdeeds" and before that he should be put behind bars.

On reports that one Veena Girhotra's name figured in the inquest report conducted following the suicide of Ruchika in 1993, Parkash said, "I have never met this woman."

The woman may have worked as a domestic help in Girhotra household, he said but expressed ignorance about her whereabouts saying a large number of helps are employed and one does not keep their track record once they leave.

Aradhana, the sole eyewitness to molestation of Ruchika, alleged before the media that it was Rathore who tried to gag the media earlier by filing defamation cases. Her fight will continue till justice is done, she added.
