In the wake of political storm over Telangana, Congress president Sonia Gandhi and prime minister Manmohan Singh tonight held a meeting with senior party colleagues and discussed the issue.
Besides Gandhi and Singh, the Core Group meeting at the prime ministers' residence was attended by finance minister Pranab Mukherjee and home minister P Chidambaram.
The meeting came hours after Singh is understood to have told an anti-Telangana delegation of Congress MPs from Andhra Pradesh, that he would be discussing the issue with party colleagues, and take a decision by tomorrow.
At the Core Group meeting, the Congress leadership is understood to have taken stock of the situation arising out of the Centre's decision to create Telangana state out of Andhra Pradesh.
The decision has triggered a major political storm in Andhra Pradesh and causing sharp divisions even within Congress in the state.
