SIMI activists remanded to 14 days custody in Ahmedabad

A Metropolitan court in the city has granted 14 days remand to two SIMI activists who were brought to the city by detection of crime branch (DCB) from Indore yesterday.

The duo - Younus Umar and Mohammd Shafiq are accused in the serial bomb blasts case in the city and were today produced in the court of GM Patel, who allowed the remand application of the prosecution and granted the remand.
 
The remand has been granted on the ground that police wants to know their exact role in the conspiracy that was hatch to carry out the serial bomb blasts in the city and where they were hiding so far, the sources said.

"Both Umar and Shafiq were part of the group which hatched the conspiracy to carry out serial bomb blasts in the city," a crime branch official said.

The accused were in the custody of Madhya Pradesh police and were associated with outlawed organisation Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI), the official said. Last year in the city serial blasts more than 50 people had died.
