Actor-politician Shatrughan Sinha has said that even though he has been elected from Patna Sahib in Bihar he considers the whole of India as his constituency.

"My commitment is not just to the people who voted for me in Patna, but to entire Bihar, even to Maharashtra and Mumbai and the whole of India," the actor, former Union health minister in the BJP-led NDA government, said last night.

The actor's wife Punam threw a party to celebrate her husband's maiden Lok Sabha victory and announce the completion of her new film Aaj Phir Jeene Ki Tamanna Hai starring her husband opposite Rekha.

"I am lovingly called 'Bihari Babu' because Bihar is my native place. But, I am indebted to Mumbai and Maharashtra," Sinha, popularly known as Shotgun, said.

He said he was not a "sponsored MP" of the film industry.

"Many of my industry friends have not supported me. But, I want to thank them because they are my friends," he said adding that he owed his celebrity status to the film industry.

The film was shot after his second term in Rajya Sabha ended and before he was selected as the BJP candidate for the Lok Sabha polls, he said.

Speaking about Rekha, Sinha said the actress has been a dear friend for many years.

"We even acted in several movies. But there was no communication between us of late because of some misunderstanding. But, my wife broke the ice," he said.

The film is directed by Ramesh Talwar and would be released shortly, the actor said.

Meanwhile, Sinha expressed concern over the low voting percentage in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections.

He said even though he won the Patna Sahib Lok Sabha constituency by 1.75 lakh votes, the voter turnout was just 35 per cent.

"I was shocked that even in Advani's constituency, the voter turnout was dismal and even in Mumbai," he said.

Sinha felt the need for more professionals from different walks of life to enter politics.

He said he joined politics twenty years ago and politics was a mission for him. Political power facilitates progress, development and service of the people.
