Shashi Tharoor lost his job as minister of state for external affairs over the Indian Premier League (IPL) Kochi row but
his links with the key ministry will not be snapped.

The ebullient Lok Sabha MP has been nominated by speaker Meira Kumar to be a member of the Parliamentary standing committee on external affairs.

Tharoor, a former United Nations under-secretary general, had to resign in the wake of the controversy in connection with the IPL Kochi franchisee.

A first-time MP from Thiruvananthapuram, Tharoor was no stranger to controversies during his 11-month stint as minister of state for external affairs.
