Security in Assam beefed up

Apprehending a backlash by members of NDFB anti-talk faction following the arrest of its chairman Ranjan Daimary, security has been beefed up in Assam.
   
Two NDFB militants were picked up from Chandmari area of the city here yesterday and the police had launched search operations in various parts of the city following reports of NDFB members having sneaked here to carry out subsversive activties, police said.
   
Directives have been issued to superintendents of police of all districts to maintain a strict vigil to prevent any untoward situation.
   
Security forces had stepped up operations against the Ranjan Daimary led anti-talk faction in recent months with 28 members being killed in the first four months of the year.
   
Altogether 13 cadre were killed in January, seven in February, five in March and three in April in joint operations by the police and the Army.

Despite setbacks, the members of the outfit were indulging in extortion and kidnapping in Bodoland Territorial Administered Districts (BTAD) and in areas bordering Arunachal Pradesh, the police added.
