The CBSE affiliated Banyan Tree School, located at the Lodhi Colony Institutional area in south Delhi, has suspended the classes for standard VII and VIII since yesterday after a student of class eight showed symptoms of swine flu.

Students have been told by authorities not to report for a week after a pupil of one of the classes was suspected to be suffering from swine flu.

"We have shut down classes for students of VII and VIII for a week after one of the parents of a student of class eight informed that their child has symptoms of swine flu and has undergone a test for it," an official with the school said today. The management decided to suspend both the classes for a week as they are on the same floor and the school was closed yesterday for disinfecting and fumigating the campus, the official said.

Dr Anjan Prakash, the nodal officer for swine flu management in Delhi said "There is no rigid instruction for schools to follow. They need not shut down the whole school. Depending on the situation they can decide what to do."
