The district unit of Samajwadi Party has asked party workers not to use English in invitation cards issued by them for family functions, failing which no party member will attend the event.

"This year, the party is celebrating the birth centenary of Dr Ram Manohar Lohia and trying to fulfill the dream of the great leader by protesting the language. We believe that English must be learned but should not be used as an official language as it is a foreign language," Samajwadi Party's Kanpur district president, Jitender Bahadur Singh said today.

SP's Kanpur division has decided in a meeting that the invitation cards of party worker shall not be printed in English instead they should be in Hindi or any other Indian language.

"Party leaders have decided that they would oppose and boycott any function hosted by any party worker, if he gets the invitation card printed in English," Singh said.

The leader said that Samajwadi Party has always worked for the promotion of Hindi and is not against learning English. He also said that like Japan and China are developing by using their mother-tongue, we shall also do the same.
