Chennai: Former Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa has asked prime minister Manmohan Singh to drop Union telecom minister A Raja from the cabinet for his "misdemeanours" in allotting "airwave" spectrum and to "rein in MK Azhagiri" for seeking Indian ambassador in Uzbekistan's help in exploring "investment opportunities" for the sons of two DMK leaders.

"The most talked-about person in the last UPA ministry was undoubtedly telecom minister A Raja. He, reportedly, caused the nation a loss of between Rs60,000 crore to Rs1 lakh crore by adopting a defective policy for airwave spectrum allotment. Loss to the nation implies unlawful gain for someone. The nation has a right to know who gained. Despite the prime minister's reservations, Raja was bull-dozed into the cabinet by Karunanidhi," Jayalalithaa alleged in an official statement.

"If media reports are to be believed, the Central Vigilance Commission has referred Raja's misdemeanours to the CBI. If a fair investigation is to take place, Raja should be removed from his Union minister's post," she said.

On Azhagiri, she said as "minister for chemicals and fertilisers he had instructed the Indian Ambassador in Uzbekistan Syed Manal Shah Alquadri to help explore investment opportunities for the sons of two DMK leaders.

The instructions were given through a letter dated September 11. Signed by Azhagiri's private secretary, the letter states that it was being written under instructions from the minister.

It recommended business cases of SKP Sundaram and Mukund Vijayan. The letter glorifies them as reputed investment advisers visiting Tashkent to explore investment opportunities in Uzbekistan in the third week of September, 2009.
