Run, registration for Ahmedabad marathon closes today

Over 1,000 registrations have already been recorded for the half-marathon category of the race.

If you are still considering participating in the Sabarmati Marathon 2011, then you better hurry! Wednesday is the last day for registrations for the run organised by Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) and Ahmedabad Distance Runners (ADR).

According to official figures, over 1,000 registrations have already been recorded for the half-marathon category of the race.
Deputy municipal commissioner, Dilip Mahajan said, "We are receiving good response from citizens and corporates alike. As per the data available on Tuesday, more than 1,000 people have registered for the half-marathon, while over 300 have signed up for the full marathon so far."

Interestingly, most bulk registrations will come on the last day (today) with the total number expected to almost double. "The final figures for the full marathon will easily cross 350 on the last day. We are also expecting the figures of half-marathon to be around 2,500. As entries from Air Force, Army, CISF, BSF, CM's Security are yet to come in, we expect the figure to double," stated Lihas Trivedi, president of ADR.

Moreover, this time, lots of corporate houses and firms have enrolled to participate in the Dream Run category. While a whopping 700 entries have come from the State Bank of India, Kalupur Bank has registered 250 of its employees. Forty participants from Sterling Hospital, 300 from the city's airport and 110 from Reliance Capital have also registered. While 5,007 registrations had been made as of Tuesday for the Dream Run, the bulk sign-ups on the last day are expected to take this figure to 7,000.
