A senior politician from Madhya Pradesh is under the CBI scanner in connection with the murder of RTI activist Shehla Masood in which the agency has arrested two persons and may arrest one more very soon.
Based on the questioning of architect Zahida Parvez, who was arrested yesterday in connection with the murder, along with a contract killer whose identity has been withheld, the CBI is likely to arrest one more person soon, CBI sources said.
They said the agency is yet to ascertain the exact motive which led to the killing of the 32-year old RTI activist and a clearer picture would emerge after detailed questioning of the arrested accused -- Parvez and a contract killer whose identity has not been disclosed by the agency.
The duo has been sent to police custody till March 6 by the special CBI court in Indore.
CBI sources here claimed that the politician was quite close to architect Zahida Parvez, who was arrested yesterday in connection with the murder.
They said the politician has already been questioned by the agency before arrests in the case were made yesterday and if required he would again be interrogated.
CBI has conclusively found that Masood was in touch with the same politician who was once the head of Madhya Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation before difference arose between them because of RTI applications filed by her, CBI sources said.
They said the agency is now trying to evaluate if the politician was also involved in the murder conspiracy or not.
Meanwhile, the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force has also arrested a person from Kanpur who is claiming to have killed Masood for a contract of Rs3 lakh. Ironically, the CBI had announced a reward of Rs10 lakh for anyone providing information on her murder.
