On the eve of the 25th anniversary of Babri demolition in Ayodhya, RSS chief, Mohanrao Bhagwat, chose to address the media and insist that they had “no regrets whatsoever” at the demolition. “We would lend unstinted support to the campaign to build the Ram temple on the controversial spot,” he added.

But he categorically denied that that there was any well-chalked out conspiracy to demolish the mosque. “It was an emotional upsurge and nothing beyond that,” he said. The RSS chief lambasted the Liberhan commission report saying that it was “full of factual errors” and had eroded the credibility of the judicial commissions as such.

But what emerged from the interaction was also the fact that RSS was changing contours. “It does like anymore working in a hush-hush manner, hence the RSS executive has decided that the chief of the organisation should be more interactive with the media and public,” said the RSS chief in the city on Saturday.

Heading the organisation of about 1.60 lakh volunteers Bhagwat said “we are infusing new blood in the organisation and would like the people to know more about us.” The RSS would make in-roads in the corporate sector and also expand its wing, the Rashtriya Sewika Sangh, among females, he said.

Commenting on the RSS-BJP relations Bhagwat denied that he had ever said that the next BJP chief would be from outside Delhi. He said “this is what I was told by the senior BJP leaders.” The RSS would only tender advice, if sought for. “Otherwise it had no role in the day to day working of the BJP”, Bhagwat said.

The RSS chief expressed concern at the lackadaisical approach of the Centre towards handling the Indo-China relation conflicts. “We should never get complacent and deal with the situation with strength on military, intelligence and diplomatic levels”, he added saying that the possibility of China’s aggression could not be discounted.

“What the BJP leadership has told us, we hope they will do that. They will decide when and how they will do this,” he said. He added that neither he nor the RSS had any information on who would be the next BJP president.

Asked whether the BJP was a better party than the Congress, the RSS chief said that public had given its opinion about this in the general elections in 2004 and 2009. The RSS chief said that it was wrong to say that the organisation was out of sync with modern India. “We are moving with modern India.”
