Indian currency worth Rs50,000 and indigenously printed at a small printing press at Nagalpur village of Anjar taluka was seized from Adipur and Anjar district of eastern Kutch by the Gandhidham police.

LD Vaghadia, Special Operation Group (SOG), police inspector of Gandhidham told DNA, "After a long hunt we found the printing press at Nagalpur village with all the key equipment for currency counterfeiting. We arrested three people including the kingpin of the village with some fake documents. Though the local court has given us remand for three days, we have decided to take their lie detector test on Thursday."

It all began with the first arrest of Rayamal Rabari, an illiterate from Modvadar village where fake notes worth Rs45,000 were recovered from his associates from Adipur. Rayamal's interrogation led to the arrest of Girish Hemraj Thakar and the kingpin Bipin Madhubhai Thakar from the Nagalpur village which later led to the recovery of some fake currency notes worth Rs5,000, he added.

Vaghadia stated that Bipin, a computer literate along with Rayamal, started the printing press at Anjar one and a half months back and printed fake notes which Rayamal later circulated. The police are unaware of the number of counterfeit notes printed and circulated.

Some fake notes have been recovered but only from Adipur and Anjar. The criminals took advantage of the Diwali rush as the shopkeepers were less likely to minutely check the notes for counterfeiting.

He added that the miscreants, in order to avoid any suspicion falling on them, soiled the brand new notes first and then circulated them.
