The Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) officials will question 47 people in connection with the theft of 10 kg gold worth Rs2.2 crore reported from Air Cargo Complex at Sardar Vallabhabhai Patel International Airport (SVPIA) last Tuesday.

When asked about developments in the case, DCB's Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Himanshu Shukla said that it was not possible to divulge further information as investigations were going on.

Official sources have, however, claimed that DCB officials have taken CCTV footages of entry and exit of people on the day the incident took place.

The officials of Gujarat State Export Corporation Limited (GSEC), which manages the air cargo complex at the international airport, had lodged a theft complaint with Meghaninagar police on the same day.

The case was handed over to DCB after the initial investigations. Sources said that the theft is believed to be the handiwork of an insider who knows Air Cargo Complex inside out.

Sources further added that the CCTV camera installed in the strong room where gold and other valuables were kept didn't work properly and the footage recorded was not clearly visible.

“But the footage of entry and exit of people on that particular day may provide us with some clues. More than 45 people have been captured in the video footage. That's why the officials will quiz everyone to get some clue,” claimed sources.
