A chemical trader in Thaltej has filed a complaint at Vastrapur police station stating thieves made away with Rs18 lakh cash from his office last Saturday. He has named his peon as a suspect.

The trader, Anand Palkhiwala, stated in his complaint that some unknown persons stole the cash kept in a safe in his office.

Palkhiwala has his office at Shapath-III on SG Highway and has seven employees. However, only peon Satyam Thakor and accountant Dipesh Jani work at the office. The rest of the staff have field jobs. The 39-year-old trader has named Thakor as a suspect in his police complaint.

The trader had received the amount as payment from three parties on Saturday.

"However, I had to go to Mumbai on Sunday and had misplaced my air-ticket in the office. In my search for the ticket and hurry, I forgot to put the cash in the proper place and left for Mumbai," stated Palkhiwala in his complaint.

"After returning from Mumbai, when I checked the safe, the cash was missing," Palkhiwala added.

The complainant further said that the safe in which he had kept the money did not have a lock. He then lodged a complaint in this regard on Sunday night.

Vastrapur police have registered a case of theft. However, no arrests have been made so far. Police inspector SB Trivedi is investigating the matter.
