Rs150 crore for Gujarat's police modernisation

Finance minister Vaju Vala announced on Friday that the state government would spend more than Rs150 crore for modernisation of the police force.

Vala made provision of Rs50 crore for modernisation of communication system and other equipment, and Rs72.50 crore for purchasing arms and modern ammunition for the cops. A further Rs29 crore were proposed to acquire 500 more vehicles.

The FM announced that Rs100 crore would be spent for construction of office buildings and 1,000 police staff quarters. A further Rs22.47 crore would be spent for establishing new police stations, upgradation of 11 police stations and 13 police outposts. The government also plans to create 1,000 new posts of traffic police in urban areas.

Vala also announced that training centres would be established to impart training to home guards, police constables and Lokrakshak jawans.

"As part of preparedness to mitigate challenges of crime, an anti Human Trafficking Cell would be established. Courses for coastal police and tourist police are also proposed to be started at Raksha Shakti University," Vala announced. Budget also has provision of Rs18 cr to purchase equipments, vehicles and to install CCTV system and other measures for upgrading jails. Provision of Rs69.10 crore has been made for construction of new court buildings, while Rs294 crore has been provisioned for infrastructural facilities for judicial sector.
