The Army Welfare Housing Organisation is undertaking a Rs 600 crore housing project for army personnel at Whitefield in the city.

The foundation stone for this project would be laid jointly by Karnataka chief minister BS Yeddyurappa and chief of army
staff General VK Singh tomorrow, a defence release said.

"The project that is slated for completion by April 2012 will turn the dream of owning a house of many war widows, ex-servicemen and serving personnel into reality", it said.

The proposed project would have total of 1524 apartments of 2/3/4 bedrooms configuration with penthouses at the 13th and 14th floors. The housing complex would have 29 towers in seven blocks set within green landscaped open spaces.

Wide roads connect all the blocks and covered parking is provided for each apartment either at stilt level or within the basement, it said.

AWHO was formed in December 1978 with the objective of constructing houses for serving/ retired Army personnel and
their widows in selected stations throughout the country. A
number of projects have been constructed in various part of
the country on a ‘no profit, no loss’ basis.
