Back-to-back attacks by armed robbers on bikes have struck fear in the hearts of Delhiites. Two Baldev Singhs — one, a petrol pump manager and the other, a security guard at a filling station in Yamuna Vihar — were looted on Monday. While the manager was injured, the guard was killed.

Baldev Singh, manager at a Bharat Petroleum outlet on Ring Road in South Extension, was crossing a street to deposit Rs10 lakh in a State Bank of India branch when two armed men on a bike intercepted him. One of them shot at him, but the bullet brushed past.

The robbers then fled, leaving the money and a bleeding Baldev on the street. He is recuperating at Healing Touch Hospital.

The other Baldev was carrying Rs8 lakh in a bag to deposit in a Syndicate Bank branch in Yamuna Vihar when two bike-borne armed assailants confronted him. A third robber tried to snatch the bag. When Baldev resisted, one of the bike-borne robbers shot him in the chest. The three then fled with the money. Baldev was rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.

In both cases, the robbers seemed to know that the money was to be deposited in the banks on Monday. “It was all well-planned. The robbers knew when to strike,” a senior police officer said.
