Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar today alleged that RJD and Congress were in secret pact and RJD leader Raghuvansh Prasad Singh's statement that his party might seek support of the Congress after the polls had vindicated his stand.

"The statement of Singh has proved that the game has been fixed between Congress and RJD. We always have firm belief that they are fighting separately only to join later. Their purpose is clear. They act seperately against us, but are together in all things," Kumar said.

Singh had yesterday said that RJD would seek Congress support to form government in Bihar in the event of the coming polls throwing up a hung assembly.

"We will see what comes up after the elections. In the event of the RJD-LJP alliance falling short of majority, it will approach Congress and other secular parties for support," Singh had yesterday said.

Dismissing charges that the NDA government was responsible for the backwardness of the state, deputy chief minister, Sushil Kumar Modi said Congress president, Sonia Gandhi should answer why Centre was scuttling 25,000 mw power generation proposals by denying coal-linkages to Bihar.

He wondered as to why clearance was denied to the state for ethanol production and why the party was silent on the Kosi rehabilitation package.

Reacting to Gandhi's charge that non-Congress governments have done nothing for the development of Bihar in the last 20 years, the BJP leader said that it was Congress which kept RJD "alive" for 15-years by lending it crucial support.

Making a comparative analysis, Modi said in a press statement that during 2000-01 and 2004-05, Congress-RJD government spent only Rs5322 crore on rural development, while the NDA government spent Rs16,175 crore between 2005-06 and 2009-10 on this front.

In 2000-01, the then Congress-RJD government had spent Rs1825 crore on construction of houses under Indira Awas Yojana, whereas the NDA government had during 2005-06 and 2009-10 spent Rs8952 crore on it.

Similarly, in the education sector the RJD-Congress alliance spent Rs14,380 crore during 2000-01 and 2004-05, while the NDA government spent Rs30,174 crore on education in the last four years," he added.
