The RJD today accused the Centre and the Nitish Kumar government in Bihar of failing to check escalating prices of essential commodities and launched its 'fill-the-jail' campaign to oppose it.

Hundreds of party activists, led by its Rajya Sabha member Ramkripal Yadav, brought out a march in the state capital and held demonstration at the district collectorate against alleged failure of the Centre and the state government to contain escalating prices.

Later, around 1000 partymen courted arrest under the 'Jail Bharo Abhiyan' (fill-the-jail campaign) called by RJD supremo Lalu Prasad.

The RJD workers were taken to a make-shift jail at Gardanibagh from where they were released in the evening, official sources confirmed.

Earlier, talking to reporters, Yadav castigated the Nitish Kumar government for not taking action against the "blackmarketeers and hoarders" responsible for the price rise which had adversely affected the common people in the state.

"We will continue to raise the issue both inside and outside Parliament", he said.

Yadav urged the people of the state to vote for ouster of the Nitish Kumar government in Bihar.
