Retrace Bapu’s historic strides against salt tax

Do you want to experience the Dandi March that the Mahatma led against the salt tax? Well after 80 years of the Dandi March, it may not be possible to revive the same feeling, but you can experience other things associated with the march including the journey.

You can retrace the steps of the Salt Satyagrahaon the heritage route to Dandi that will be developed by thestate in association with the union government.

As part of its plans to develop the 'Gandhi Ashram — Dandi route' as a heritage travel route, the state tourism department is considering building huts at villages, where Gandhi had spent his nights on his way to Dandi.Apart from this, the state culture department will also be associated with the project to develop a library and a museum at Dandi.

Highly placed sources in the state government said that the project is under consultation with the Dandi Memorial Committee. "Everything will be developed after an approval is given by the committee. There are plans to develop a library and a museum at Dandi village. Small huts will also be built in villages where Gandhiji spent his nights during the Dandi March," said the source.

He further said that the idea was to make a tourist experience the 1930 march. "We are also looking to offer replicas of the things associated with the march. There are also plans to offer the same kind of food, which was served during the march. We have prepared the designs and sent it to the committee for consideration," said the source.

No official of the state government agreed to come on record to comment on the project as there has been a blame game going on between the state and the Centre over the project.
