It's an irony that 'rebels' and protesters are going to have a tough time digesting their own party's huge victory. The Bharatiya Janata Party, which witnessed massive protests when they allotted tickets to new faces for the civic polls, has now made a clean sweep - much to the chagrin of many who were opposing the party's moves.

The party's allotment of tickets took many in the city BJP by surprise, and quite a few made their dislike quite apparent. However, the results on Tuesday proved that at the end of the party, it is the party that is more important than everything and everybody else - even its workers and 'prominent' leaders.

Certain top leaders in the saffron brigade had voiced anger against ticket allotment, and claimed to have the support of the masses as well. Astonishingly, the party has won most of the seats where dissidents were active or where important leaders did not step out to lend a hand in election work.

"The results of the civic polls have proved that the pressure to give tickets to the so-called 'prominent' leaders was misplaced. Now, everyone will realise that at the end of the day, it is the party that stands supreme, and not the leader," said a top BJP leader.

After the party allotted tickets, protest emerged from over 30 wards. Party workers made representations before city BJP president Rakesh Shah, general secretary Chandraprakash Dave and many others.

Many ward presidents and secretaries put in their resignations. They also went against the party by setting up parallel panels of independent candidates to work against the party during the elections.

Now it seems those who did not support the party or acted against it will face action. "We are not going to take direct action against them. But they understand  that the party does not value them much now, considering that it won the elections without their support," said a BJP loyalist.
