Rajya Sabha mourns death of sitting BJP member, House adjourns

Rajya Sabha today adjourned for the day without transacting any business after mourning the death of sitting BJP member Krishan Lal Balmiki.

As soon as the House met for the day, chairman Hamid Ansari mentioned the passing away of 67-year-old Balmiki, who died today.

Balmiki represented Rajasthan in the Upper House since April 2006.
   
In his condolence message, Ansari described him as a noted social worker and keen sports lover.
   
"In passing away of Balmiki, the nation has lost an able parliamentarian and a dedicated social worker," he said.
   
The House then observed silence before it was adjourned for the day.
