Rains lash Ahmedabad, complaints flood AMC

After Thursday's rain, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC)'s control room at Sanskar Kendra was inundated with calls complaining about road cave-ins and uprooted trees. 

A woman Amrut Parmar, a resident of Motipura in Khambhat lost her live after her house collapsed on Friday afternoon following heavy rain in Anand district.

Met department in Ahmedabad said that the city received 68.2 mm of rain in Thursday's night spell. By Thursday evening, the AMC control room had received 21 complaints of road cave
in and uprooted trees blocking the roads.

Met department, meanwhile, has said that moderate rain will continue to bless Ahmedabad for the coming few days. 

The rain brought respite to citizens from the sweltering heat. "We had taken to sleeping on terrace due to the high humidity. Suddenly it started raining. It was a pleasant surprise. Our bedding got wet but the rain was still welcome," said Kalpana Gagdekar, a resident of Ghatlodia.

"Heavy rain is still far away form Ahmedabad although North Gujarat has begun receiving heavy rain. Ahmedabad will see moderate rain in the coming days," said meteorologist at met office in Ahmedabad, Manorama Mohanty. 

Forecast for the state by the met department said that moderate to heavy rain or thundershowers are likely to occur at many places in all districts of Gujarat and in Diu, Daman and Dadra Nagar Haveli.
