Intermittent showers have hampered the clearance operation at the Delhi Metro construction site, where a mishap killed five persons today. Some 15 heavy and small cranes and rescue vessels of the fire service were struggling to clear the debris at the site near Lady Sri Ram College in Jamrudpur in South Delhi.

Intermittent rains disrupted the operations to remove the rubbles. Delhi Metro spokesperson Anuj Dayal said the road can be cleared for traffic only tomorrow morning. The mishap took place early in the morning when one of the pillars of an under-construction bridge caved in when a launcher was being erected. The area was flooded as the pillar fell on a water pipeline, making it burst.
