BJP today claimed that Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi has conceded defeat in Bihar assembly elections by stating that his party is contesting to improve its future prospect in the state.

"By making the statement that his party is contesting the poll for its future, Gandhi has accepted the ground situation and conceded Congress' defeat in this elections," BJP spokesperson Syed Shahnawaz Hussain told reporters in Patna.

Gandhi, earlier today at an election rally in Sasaram, said that "Though it will take some time, we will perform better on the pattern of Uttar Pradesh and have a government of common people."

Hussain said, "Rahulji yuva aur acche neta hain. Unhone jameeni hakikat swikar kar liya hai (Rahul is a good youth leader and has accepted the ground reality."

On Gandhi's remarks against Nitish Kumar for 'Bihar Shining' campaign, Hussain said, "The Congress leader should know that Biharis are shining in other states because of their hardwork and commitment and not at the mercy of the grand old party (Congress)."

He said it was unfortunate that neither Congress president Sonia Gandhi nor Rahul Gandhi mentioned the tragedy that befell on the people of Bihar in the house collapse in New Delhi and said the BJP would press for an adequate compensation to the affected families.
