Quick reaction teams in all HP districts to tackle terror

Himachal Pradesh has raised quick reaction teams (QRTs) in all districts to deal with terror activities, a senior police officer said today.

QRTs comprising 30 trained personnel headed by a deputy superintendent of police-level officer have been created in all the 12 districts of the hill state to deal with terror activities, additional director general of police (armed police and training) B Kamal Kumar told PTI.

Besides teams in the districts, state-level special action group (SAG) comprising 50 trained policemen under a DSP has been created at capital Shimla and Dharamsala, headquarters of Kangra district, he added.

Kumar added that one company comprising 100 personnel are undergoing six-months army training at Yole in Dharamsala, he said.

Five police personnel are being trained as instructors from the National Security Guard at Manesar in Haryana while as many others are being trained in bomb disposal, Kumar said. On completion of training they would act as instructors, he added.

In addition to dealing with terror activities, the QRTs would also play a role in disaster management, he said, adding QRT personnel at Lahaul and Spiti recently rescued over three dozen tourists stranded in snowfall near Darcha en route to Leh.
