Punjab govt won't allow revival of militancy: Sukhbir Singh Badal

With a recent infiltration bid from across the Indo-Pak border foiled in Punjab, the Badal government today said it would not allow revival of militancy in the state.
    
"Punjab police is keeping a close vigil. The government would not allow militancy to raise its ugly head again in the state," deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal said here.

Noting that being a border state, Punjab had borne the brunt of intrusions by a "hostile neighbour", he demanded an annual grant of Rs 200 crore from the Union government for the modernisation of police force.
    
Badal, who was here to meet the families of the two policemen who died fighting two militants from across the Indo-Pak border in the district on April 25, handed over cheques of Rs 15 lakh each to them.
     
He also announced an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh to each of the families in addition to Rs 15 lakh given to them besides promising to take complete care of them.

The deputy CM also handed over appointment letters for government jobs to the eligible member from each family and asked the DGP PS Gill, who accompanied him, to provide the families of constable Narinder Singh and head constable Sawinder Singh an official accommodation.
