Prime minister’s statement has come as a ray of hope: PDP

Lashing out at the Omar Abdullah government, PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti said that NC government has not only failed on governance and political fronts but has alienated the people of the state.

Welcoming the statement made by prime minister Manmohan Singh on dialogue with Pakistan, opposition PDP today said it has come as a ray of hope after earlier foreign secretary-level talks failed to achieve a breakthrough.
           
"Prime minister's statement seems like a ray of hope. I was quite disappointed with earlier talks. They seemed nothing more than photo sessions," PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti told reporters here today.
           
In an interview to Saudi journalists ahead of his visit to Riyadh, the prime minister Manmohan Singh had said there was "no alternative" to dialogue to resolve issues which "divide us" and that India was ready to discuss all matters with Pakistan including Kashmir in an atmosphere free from terror.
           
Mufti said "it is nice beginning that prime minister had said that peace process and dialogue are necessary".
           
Lashing out at the Omar Abdullah government, she said that NC government has not only failed on governance and political fronts but has alienated the people of the state.
           
The opposition leader claimed that after Bomai incident in Sopore area, chief minister Omar Abdullah had himself assured the House about shifting of the armed forces from civilian areas and revocation of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA).
           
She, however, regretted that the government had failed to fulfill its commitment.
