Slamming the UPA government for the police action against Anna Hazare, the BJP on Wednesday told the Congress power is not immortal.

Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley said the prime minister’s statement on the issue did not inspire confidence.

“Power is not immortal. The more arrogant you are, the earlier it disappears,” he said initiating the debate on the Hazare issue.

“Has this government lost all sense of statecraft on how political agitations are to be dealt with? You impose conditions?”

Jaitley said while confronting government on the role of Sonia Gandhi headed National Advisory Committee (NAC). Jaitley pointed out that the NAC too is a group of citizens which the government was using to draft laws.

But the ministers did not have the courage to oppose the NAC laws because it was headed by Sonia Gandhi, he added.

Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj too fired back at the PM saying he was trying to palm off his responsibilities to the Delhi Police for the event.
