After arresting Vamsi Chand Reddy, former state general secretary of the National Students Union of India (NSUI), police are focusing on the conspiracy theory behind the attacks on Reliance properties in Andhra Pradesh.

Investigation so far has revealed that Reddy sent out bulk SMSes to his accomplices to attack Reliance properties much before three TV channels aired a programme accusing Reliance Industries Limited chairman Mukesh Ambani of involvement in the helicopter crash that killed former chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy.

The channels - TV5, Sakshi and NTV - picked up a four-month-old
report published in a Russian online magazine to hurl the accusation.

Minutes after the programme was aired, mobs began attacking Reliance outlets, including internet and telecom facilities of ADAG (Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group) chaired by Anil Ambani, causing damage worth crores of rupees.

Reddy was produced before a magistrate on Monday and remanded till January 25. “There are several dots in the episode. The investigators are trying to connect them,” a source tracking the developments said. The investigators are keen to know the source of the NSUI leader who had kept his friends on the ready for an attack on Reliance outlets, though only the staff of the TV channels was aware of the programmes coming up.
