Former deputy mayor Dilip Kothari and Vadodara Congress president Suresh Patel were detained along with 15 others by police in the city today.
According to police, Kothari had tried to attack a police sub-inspector in the premises of Vadodara Municipal Corporation when a group of Congress party workers submitted a memorandum to the deputy municipal commissioner CM Makwana over deteriorating civic services in the city.
When police tried to take Kothari to a police station, other partymen including Patel tried to block them, and hence they were taken in police custody, they said.
Kothari, however, denied the charge.
